Quicksloth Q&A for Confluence: documentation
Last updated: 9 October 2026. Describes the current version of the app for Confluence Cloud.
1. Getting started
Install
A Confluence site admin installs the app from the Atlassian Marketplace. The app works with Confluence Cloud only. There is nothing to configure: the app prepares its own database the first time it is used.
First use
The first time each person opens the app, Confluence asks them to allow the app to access Confluence on their behalf (usually with an Allow access button). The app needs this so that everything it reads and writes uses that person's own permissions. Each person answers this once.
Where to find it
- In a space: open the space and select Questions in the space navigation. Here you can ask questions and see the questions of that space.
- Across the site: select Questions in the Apps section of the main Confluence navigation. This page lists questions from every space you can see. To ask a question, open Questions in a space.
- A single question opens as its own Confluence page, with a link you can share.
2. Ask a question
- In a space, open Questions and select Ask a question.
- Fill in:
- Title (required, up to 255 characters).
- Details: an editor with text formatting, lists, links and code blocks (up to 100 KB). Images and attachments are not supported yet.
- Topics: optional keywords separated by commas, for example
api, security. Up to 10 topics.
- Select Post your question. The question opens on its own page and appears in the lists.
Topics are saved as Confluence labels on the question. Like all Confluence labels they are lowercase: spaces become hyphens, some punctuation (such as : ; , . ? & ( ) # @ !) is removed, and each topic is cut to 50 characters. Repeated topics are saved once.
The person who asks is the author of the question in Confluence.
3. Answers and comments
- Below the question you see the number of answers and each answer with its author and date.
- To answer, write in Your answer and select Post answer. The answer editor has the same formatting as the question details.
- To comment on the question or on an answer, select Add a comment, write in Comment and select Save. Comments added from the app are plain text, up to 10,000 characters, and are saved as standard Confluence comments.
- The accepted answer, if there is one, is shown first; the other answers follow from the oldest to the newest.
4. Votes
- Every question and answer has Vote up and Vote down buttons and shows its score (votes up minus votes down).
- Selecting the same button again removes your vote. Selecting the other button changes it. Each person has at most one vote per post.
- You cannot vote on your own question or answer.
5. Accepted answer
- The person who asked the question, and anyone who has permission to edit it in Confluence, sees Accept answer on each answer.
- The accepted answer shows Accepted and moves to the top. A question has one accepted answer at a time: accepting another answer replaces it.
- Unaccept removes the accepted answer.
- In the lists, questions with an accepted answer show Accepted.
6. Lists, filters and search
The Questions page of a space lists the questions of that space; the site-wide page lists questions from all the spaces you can see. Each row shows the number of answers, Accepted when there is an accepted answer, the score, the title, the author, the date it was asked, the topics and, on the site-wide page, the space.
- All / Unanswered
- Unanswered shows only questions with no answers.
- Topic
- Shows only questions with that topic (one topic at a time).
- Search questions
- Finds questions by words in the question title, in the question details and in the answers. Comments are not searched. Every word you type must appear, and only the first 5 words are used; the search ignores upper and lower case and also matches parts of words. The list updates about half a second after you stop typing, or when you select Search.
- Sort
- Newest (date asked), Active (latest new answer or comment) or Most votes.
- Space (site-wide page only)
- Shows the questions of one space. Only spaces you can see and that have questions are listed.
- The list loads 25 questions at a time; Load more shows the next ones.
7. Permissions
The app uses Confluence's own permissions; it has no separate permission settings.
- Seeing questions: a person sees a question only if Confluence lets them see it, which in practice means they can see its space. Before any list is shown, the app checks with Confluence, as the person viewing it, which questions they may see.
- Asking and answering: a person can ask in a space, answer and comment only where Confluence lets them create that content. Otherwise Confluence refuses and the app shows an error message.
- Accepting answers: the author of the question, or anyone with permission to edit the question.
- Keeping lists up to date: when a question or answer is edited, trashed, restored or deleted in Confluence, the app receives an event from Confluence and updates its index. This runs as the app itself, not as a user; nothing it reads this way is shown to anyone without the permission check above.
What the app asks Confluence for (scopes)
| Scope | Used for |
|---|---|
read:custom-content:confluence | Reading questions and answers, and checking what each person may see and edit. |
write:custom-content:confluence | Creating and editing questions and answers. |
delete:custom-content:confluence | Moving a question or answer to the Confluence trash when its author or a space admin deletes it. |
read:comment:confluence, write:comment:confluence | Showing, adding and editing comments. |
read:label:confluence, write:label:confluence | Saving and showing topics as labels. |
read:space:confluence | Showing space names in the site-wide list and its Space filter, and checking whether a person is a space admin who may edit or delete any post. |
read:confluence-content.summary | Receiving Confluence events about questions and answers, to keep the lists up to date. |
The app asks for no permission to contact any address outside Atlassian. See the privacy policy for what it stores and where.
8. License and read-only mode
If the app's license on your site is not active, the app keeps showing questions and answers but becomes read-only: you see the message "This app's license is inactive. Ask a Confluence admin to subscribe." and the buttons to ask, answer, comment, vote and accept are hidden or disabled; editing and deleting are refused as well. Licenses and billing are handled by Atlassian through the Marketplace.
9. Limits of the current version
- Confluence search: questions do not appear in Confluence's own search bar today, because of a known Confluence issue with app content (CONFCLOUD-84122). Use Search questions on the app's pages, which also searches the answers.
- No notifications: the app does not send notifications or emails when a question gets an answer or a comment.
- No images or attachments in questions and answers.
- Comments can be edited by their author but cannot be deleted from the app.
- Long threads: a question page shows up to 100 answers, and up to 100 comments under each post.
- Space filter: lists up to 250 spaces.
- No import or export of questions from or to other tools yet.
- English only: the app's interface is in English.
10. FAQ
- Does it work with Confluence Data Center or Server?
- No. It is a Forge app for Confluence Cloud only.
- Who can see a question?
- Anyone who can see it in Confluence, in practice the people who can see its space. See Permissions.
- Is any data sent outside Atlassian?
- No. The app runs on Atlassian Forge, stores data only in your Confluence site and in its Forge SQL database hosted by Atlassian, and has no permission to contact other addresses. See the privacy policy.
- Why can't I find a question with the Confluence search bar?
- See Limits: use the app's own search instead.
- Can I edit or delete a question?
- Yes, your own questions and answers. Select Edit to change the title and details of a question, or the text of an answer, then Save. Select Delete and confirm to move it to the Confluence trash: it no longer appears in the app, and when you delete a question, its answers and comments no longer appear in the app either. Space admins can edit and delete any question or answer in their space. Deleting also needs Confluence's permission to delete content in that space; without it, the app shows a message and nothing is deleted. You can edit your own comments with Edit next to them. If a question or answer is edited, trashed, restored or deleted in Confluence by other means, the lists follow automatically.
- Why does the app ask me to allow access?
- So that it can read and write Confluence content as you, with your permissions. See First use.
- What happens to our data if we uninstall the app?
- The app's Forge SQL database (search index, votes, accepted answers) follows Atlassian's data lifecycle for Forge apps: it is marked for deletion at uninstall and deleted after Atlassian's retention period; if requested within 21 days, it can be relinked to a new installation. Questions, answers and comments are content of your Confluence site: uninstalling does not ask us to delete them, and after uninstalling the app can no longer reach them. Details in the privacy policy.
- Something does not work. What should I do?
